Nowadays, being sustainable isn't an option — it's a responsibility. There are many small changes we can make in our daily routine: recycling, composting, walking instead of driving, reducing plastic use, and shifting our diet to a plant-based one. The latter not only improves health and helps prevent degenerative diseases, but also pushes back against the animal feed industries.
Most of us grew up on an animal-based diet and don't know how to make the transition or what to eat instead. The good news: today there are restaurants offering plant-based products that are not only delicious but full of the nutrients we need. These are our 5 favorites in Quintana Roo.
1. Bio Natural — Playa del Carmen
One of our favorites in Playa del Carmen — delicious vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes made with organic and natural ingredients. With several locations in the heart of Playa, they offer not only on-site food but an extensive product range: cold-press juices, superfoods, personal care products and more.
2. 100% Natural — 5th Avenue
Located on 5th Avenue between calles 10 and 12. A wide variety of vegan options and dishes with authentic homemade flavor, paired with delicious natural drinks. The combination of fruits and vegetables produces an extraordinary color palette — from a freshly squeezed juice to traditional Mexican plates.
3. The Pitted Date — CTM Avenue
Located on CTM Avenue, one block from Coco Beach. Modern design and a fresh take on vegan food with a brunch concept. If you're new to plant-based eating or miss old comfort dishes, visit The Pitted Date — its veganized versions are remarkable.
Our pick: Breakfast Panini.
4. Raw Love — Tulum
What's better than enjoying a vegan meal facing the Riviera Maya's most beautiful beaches? Raw Love is a raw-vegan restaurant inside Ahau Hotel. Smoothie bowls, salads and incredible desserts in the jungle facing Tulum's turquoise sea.
Our pick: VeryBerry Bowl.
5. Mango y Chile — Bacalar
On Avenue 3 in Bacalar, with a spectacular view of the lagoon and the Bacalar Fort. 100% vegan burgers, tacos, smoothies and desserts. Every option is delicious and very satisfying — you'll come back every time you go to Bacalar.
Our pick: Classic Burger.
In summary
Eating plant-based in the Riviera Maya is no longer the difficult part — it's choosing among the options. Whether you're in Playa, Tulum or Bacalar, these five spots prove sustainable eating can be both delicious and accessible.
